Frequently Asked Questions - Edmonton Counselling

Here are a few of the questions I often get asked about my practice:

What is your designation?

I am a Canadian Certified Counsellor (CCC) through the Canadian Counselling & Psychotherapy Association (CCPA) and a Counselling Therapist with the Association of Counselling Therapy of Alberta (ACTA).

Do you offer in person counselling?

No, my practice is completely virtual. This means that you can access therapy from home or work, to fit your schedule.

What is the current fee for a 50-minute online session?

The current fee is $180/50-minute session. Fees may increase due to changes in operational costs, for GST adjustments, etc. throughout the year. Clients will be informed of any changes to the fee schedule well in advance.

What type of payment do you currently accept?

Payment can be made in a timely manner after session through e-transfer to kayla@pineappletherapy.ca. Once the payment has been received, a detailed receipt will be sent to you. You may then submit the receipt to your insurance company.

Will my insurance company cover counselling?

Some insurance companies cover the designations of Canadian Certified Counsellor and Counselling Therapist. I encourage you to reach out to your insurance company before our first session to see if your specific insurance plan will reimburse you for the cost of counselling, either partially or fully.

Currently, services offered by Certified Canadian Counsellors may be covered by:

  • Pacific Blue Cross
  • Equitable Life
  • Greenshield
  • SunLife
  • Blue Cross (select plans)

What type of equipment do I need for online counselling?

We will be connecting over a secure video conferencing service. As such, you will need access to a secure and reliable wifi network, a computer, along with a webcam & mic. I also suggest the use of headphones, if possible.

What video conferencing service do you use?

Currently, Pineapple therapy uses Owl Practice & Jane App. It is HIPAA compliant, meaning that the network is secure and meets the American Psychological Association’s (APA) standards for encryption. Clients can schedule appointments once they have created an account. To create an account, click here.

Can I book, reschedule, and cancel appointments myself?

Yes! All of this can be done through the Jane App. Click here for all your appointment needs.

How much notice do I need to give when I cancel an appointment?

48 hours is appreciated, as it allows other clients to book the time. A late cancel will result in an $80 fee, as this time has been set aside for you.

What should I expect during our free 15-minute consultation & how do I sign up?

We will keep it casual. This is an opportunity to see if we are the right fit for each other. Generally, I will ask you what has brought you to the decision to pursue counselling, and what your goals are for therapy. I will tell you about my practice and how I work with clients with similar goals. You are also welcome to ask any questions you have at that time.

You can sign up for a free phone consultation by scheduling one through the Jane App.

Can I access therapy from anywhere in Canada?

Currently, you must be a resident of Alberta or the North West Territories to receive counselling services. The good news is that although I am based in Edmonton, you do not have to live in the city!
